Nashville country artist Kenny Meeks just dropped his fourth LP, New Jerusalem yesterday. Recalling Johnny Cash's American Recordings series (not just in sound, either - look at that cover art), it's a solid offering from an accomplished songwriter and slide guitarist whose cohort of studio collaborators (including blog favorite Nathan Partain, who co-produced the album with Meeks) help to serve up a collection of tracks that oscillate between sizzling southern rock and reflective acoustic odes.
New Jerusalem's second track, "When Jesus Takes You Dancin'", is a propulsive rollin'-and-tumblin' blues-rock tune that recalls Dylan's band circa Bringin' It All Back Home. The song finds Meeks cutting the carpet with Christ, and features this great line: "When Jesus takes you dancin'/Your sin he forgave/He takes you down to the graveyard and you dance on your own grave".
